Tips for Summer Weight Loss

Our diet and eating habits are put to the test during this time of year with all of the picnics, barbeques and summer parties at the many lakes and parks that surround Maple Grove, St. Cloud and Woodbury, MN, so it is important to know how to properly eat to lose weight during this time of the year.

One thing to be careful of during the summer months is our consumption of delicious frozen cocktails. Although many of these tempting libations are created with fruit, this does not mean they are healthy or low calorie options! Fruit juice often contains considerably more calories than a fresh piece of fruit. In addition, the alcohol in these fruity concoctions can cause dehydration, especially on hot summer days!

Another effect of the excessive heat of summer is that it reduces your appetite. The body deals with the high temperatures of summer through the elimination of water through sweat. This effect sometimes makes it difficult to eat during the summer months, even if we feel hungry. It is important not to skip meals, even when you do not feel like eating. Skipping meals does not promote weight loss, but instead prohibits it. Try eating light meals more frequently during these hot months to help keep your body nourished and ready for exercise.

We also tend to eat meals a tad bit later during the summer months because we are so busy enjoying all of the outdoor activities that are so abundant around Minnesota. There is no set time that we have to eat to help us lose weight, as long as it is at least 3 hours before bedtime for proper digestion and a chance to burn off some of those dinnertime calories!

Most importantly, drink lots and lots of water during the summer months! Water is good for weight loss any time of the year, but it is an especially good habit when it is hot outside. Not only does staying hydrated help you lose weight, it also provides nourished and healthy looking skin!
