Portion Control – Simple Ways to Calculate Proper Portions
Diets can be hard to start-what do you eat, chicken and broccoli? Can you have dessert? Are you allowed potatoes and bread? Should you drink juice, or is juice bad? There are so many decisions to make and rumors to sort through, it can be overwhelming and to some, that might be enough for them to forget the whole idea to begin with. If you start slow with something as easy as portion control you can start your weight loss diet while still eating the foods you and your family are used to and watch the pounds start melting away.
The first step is to recognize what portions are. When eating at home, make sure you measure your portions according to the cooking instructions. Buy a measuring cup, some measuring spoons and a scale so you can measure out 4 ounces of meat, ½ cup of mashed potatoes, etc. When you are away from home, eat only half of the portion a restaurant gives you, since that is closer to an actual portion size.
While portion control may not be the final solution that gets you to your goal weight, it is a great way to start.
