Exercise: Lose Weight, Keep It Off | Midwest Weight Control
Most people agree that exercise is an important part of losing weight. But what happens once you’ve hit your goal weight and you’ve changed your focus to weight maintenance?
Exercise is just as important to keeping weight off as it is to losing weight in the first place. The key is to balance how many calories you consume with the amount of calories you burn through exercise.
What kind of exercise do you need to keep weight off?
Cardi Aerobic exercise, or activity that gets your heart moving, is a good way to burn off the calories you take in every day. This can include jogging, swimming or working on a treadmill, but it can also be taking the stairs or going for a brisk walk after dinner.
Strength training: While cardio gets your heart working, strength training will help you build muscle. The more muscle mass you have, the more calories your metabolism will burn, even at rest. Strength training can include lifting free weights, working out on a weight machine, or using resistance bands.
Getting into the habit of incorporating exercise into your life while you’re losing weight will make it easier to keep the weight off once you’ve met your initial weight loss goals.
