Communicating your weight loss goals
Communication with your family, your loved ones, and yourself is the key to a happy life. When you communicate clearly with yourself about goals, exercise times, and deadlines and then keep those promises, you will have more confidence in yourself.
When you communicate clearly with your family and loved ones about your meal plan, your dietary restrictions, and your path to wellness, they will be less likely to try and serve you meals you cannot eat. If you need to bring your own food to family functions, communication will let your family know you still love them, you just can’t eat their food.
Saying, “I need to bring my own dinner because you won’t cook things I can eat” sounds like an attack and will bring out the defensive nature in another person. Saying, “I need to bring my own dinner to stay on my plan. The food looks amazing, but I have to follow my plan.” It shows that there is no fault with the food and explains why you need to do what you need to do.
Don’t be afraid to communicate. When you smile and are polite confrontation does not have to become an argument. It can be a regular conversation about your needs, your choices, and your life without having to sound like you are judging your family or loved ones choices.
