What is Bariatric Surgery?

Bariatric surgery is a surgical procedure performed on your stomach and/or intestines to help you lose weight by reducing the size of your stomach or the length of intestines food must travel through to be digested. Many bariatric surgeons require their patients to lose weight before undergoing surgery. The amount of required weight loss varies, but most surgeons agree that patients who are able to lose some weight before surgery often experience several benefits. They decrease their surgical health risks, they psychologically commit to the lifestyle choices that will be necessary post-operatively and if they are able to maintain their body protein and nutritional status while losing the weight pre-operatively, they may improve their post-operative healing time.

Midwest Weight Control's Bariatric Surgery Program

Midwest Weight Control does not provide Bariatric Surgery.  We work closely with several of the bariatric surgeons in the Twin Cities to provide quick, safe, pre-operative weight loss programs and to help prepare patients for their new post-operative lifestyles and eating habits. Our bariatric surgery pre-op program allows you to lose weight quickly under a bariatric physician's care by using high-quality, low-calorie meal replacement formulas. The program runs on a week-to-week basis to allow our patients the opportunity to lose weight for as long as necessary before their surgery. We also offer lifestyle change and nutrition instruction to prepare you for post-operative success.
