Anger is portrayed on television and in movies as an outward, aggressive emotion. It results in people punching walls, punching each other, breaking things-very destructive behaviors. For some of us, anger is internalized and expressed by eating.
You can learn to channel your anger into something constructive and learning to let something positive come out of this seemingly negative emotion. Believe it or not, anger can spurn progress. It can energize people to create positive changes, and can make you a stronger, more confident person.
The next time you get angry about a situation, instead of fuming or gorging, channel the energy from your anger into a new project devoted to changing the situation. Angry about someone who tailgated you? Design a bumper sticker to put tailgaters in their place. Angry about a new law that has been proposed? Organize a petition to let the lawmakers know how you feel. Mad about a bad review at work? Devote yourself toward creating a binder filled with samples of all the positive things you've accomplished in the office and ask your boss to review it and consider revising your review.
Whatever you're angry about, think of a way to make it better instead of sabotaging yourself and your weight loss.
